Panthers Fall Short to Bulldogs
On Friday, September 11th, the Panthers hosted the Osceola Bulldogs in a non-district contest. It was also the 25th year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
It was a nice start for the Panthers as they were the first to score after a long touchdown drive. The Bulldogs responded back with a touchdown on their own on a quick drive. Then, Tyce Larson tacked on another touchdown for the Panthers, as it would be his second of the game.
At the start of the second quarter, Leigh held a 16-8 lead until the first half expired. The rushing attack was solid for the Panthers as they would also show a stout defense against the Bulldogs.
The halftime show featured a patriotic tribute to 9/11 with elementary dancers dancing to a patriotic medley and all veterans, military, and first responders being honored on the field.
After halftime, it was a major slugfest to continue on into the third quarter, as neither team had scored since the first quarter. That changed in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs put two more touchdowns on the board, the second after a blocked punt, to ice it against the Panthers. Despite the loss, Leigh showed hard fight throughout the matchup, as now they would seek to get a victory next week against Bancroft-Rosalie.
Aidan Ellsworth said, “We played really good for the first three quarters, but once it hit the fourth we didn’t face adversity as we should’ve and ended up losing.”
Head Coach Jarrod Bazata said, “I thought we played well for three quarters, but we shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and got behind the sticks. We will clean things up and use it as fuel for next week.”
