Cyclones Finish Season
On Monday, October 5, the Cyclones’ hard-fought season came to an end as they lost to Chadron in a close 8-11 game in the sub-district tournament.
Although the Cyclones struggled this year, each and every one of them played to the best of their ability and worked very hard. Even when the scoreboard was against them, they showed great resilience, hustle, and a willingness to give anything to help the team get a win.
Despite the team having very limited players to sub in case of injury, there was always someone ready to step up and help out the team. The seniors stepping up and being great leaders was a great thing to see.
Even though they hoped to get farther in their season, each one of them had fun getting to play with one another. They showed up for themselves, each other, and for the team every game no matter what. The girls showed grit in every game and never gave up. Even after losing one game, they always got back up and were ready to give it their all for the next game, and best of all they got better each game.
Head coach Drew Machmueller said, “Coming into the season with only 10 players was hard on the whole team and was a concern, but we got through. At times that got challenging, but I was very proud of the girls and how they took care of things in terms of managing those injuries. Their willingness to fight through for their teammates was really great to see. There were some opportunities we left on the field, but that's the life of softball, and it can be very mental at times with hitting and fielding, but they never gave up. This year the team showed more fight to get back into the games as previous year and that shows the growth the players showed over the years. They fought hard with every opportunity. We did start playing better as the season went on, at the end we were playing some of our best team ball through the season and started putting more pressure on teams.”
He continued, “I am really grateful to have been able to coach these seniors over the years. I have enjoyed seeing them grow overall in everything they do and all of the lessons they have learned from softball and take them with them in the future. They were a great example to the underclassmen, and I'm looking forward to the next season with everyone returning and for success.”
Senior Reann Bruhn, who had a great season said, “We may not have had the best season, but we made a lot of memories together. It was my senior year and I am happy how it turned out for me even though we did not win very many games. There were many improvements from the past few years and I am happy to see how much we have all grown in this sport.”
